Tandems
The Skydive Surinam Boogie 2007 is not only an international
encounter for international skydivers, but also
a revival for rusty Surinam skydivers and perhaps a start
for beginning skydivers. For the broader audience a way to get
acquainted with skydiving (by tandem).
The tandem jump is performed by 2 people: the tandem
master and his passenger.
The "tandem instructor" is an experienced
skydiver with a license that allows him to take along
a passenger. The student doesn’t need to follow
any course (only minimal instruction before making a
tandem jump). The instructor practically controls the
whole jump from exit through freefall, piloting the
canopy, and landing. The passenger goes wild!

| How does it work
After a brief instruction, a harness
will be personally fitted to the passenger: tandem master and passenger together will
enter the airplane. The tandem master with his tandem rig (= big parachute and special harness). On the way
to jump height the tandem master connects the passenger
to his own harness. Verification is done, and a double
check.
Arrived at jump height (10.000 feet) they
jump, well connected, out of the airplane. After a
few seconds (during free fall) they reach the maximuml speed:
around 120 mph (200 km/h). The free fall takes about
30 seconds. Amazingly fast and an experience you will never
forget.
Without any
problems, you'll have a look around during free fall ( you will be wearing goggles).
From the moment the tandem master opens the parachute,
the falling speed immediately drops dramatically.
Underneath the parachute you still “fly”
for about 4 minutes. You’ll not only be able to
observe that the earth is indeed round, you’ll
also be able to see the beauty of Surinam in bird's eye view.
Then the landing is set in, which is very soft (thanks
to the big size of the parachute).
