Q.: Do you need a passport to travel
to Surinam? How about a visa?
A.: Yes, a valid passport is required,
an expired passport is not allowed. A visa is required
too and has to be requested with the Surinam Consulate.
(In Holland it is being prepared while you wait). Serve
to Google, for the Surinam Consulate in your country
and consult at their website “request visa”.
Q.: Are you able to pay in Euros in
Surinam?
A.: No. The Surinam currency is the
Surinam Dollar. Many cash dispensers or “change”
offices are present in Paramaribo.
Q.: What language do they speak in
Surinam?
A.: In Surinam everybody speaks Dutch.
The native language is Sranan Tongo (The Surinam language).
Furthermore every community has its own language.
Q.: What language does the staff and
the organisation speak?
A.:Dutch, English and French.
Q.: Do you need any vaccination to
visit Surinam?
A.: Yellow fever and Malaria are existing
illnesses in Surinam. Though it is said that you’re
only at risk in case you’re travelling
in the Jungle for a longer period.
To be sure howeve, better contact the health institute
specialised in tropical diseases or your family doctor.
Q.: Is there a time difference in Surinam?
A.: Yes, in the summer -5hrs central
European time, and in winter – 4hrs central
European time.
Q.: What’s the temperature in
November?
A.: In November about 29C.
February, March and April is considered as a “small”
dry period, and September until December as a “large”
dry period. November has beautiful, dry weather. Cool
clothing is recommended.
Q.: How high is the voltage in Surinam?
A.: 110 volt, so not really adequate
for most European electronical devices. Bring along
an adapter and verify your appliances.
Q.: Creepy animals?
A.: Except for Crocodiles, Snakes,
Electric Eels, Giant Turtles, Spiders, Piranha’s
and Sheatfish of about 2 meters long, actually only
one: The mosquito. So take along your anti-mosquito
spray.
Q.: How about the medical care in
Surinam?
A.: Excellent. Paramaribo counts 4 Hospitals,
of which one is an Academic Hospital. Even though it
is advisable to purchase a good travel insurance that
covers a possible emergency repatriation.
Q.: Is it possible to the drink
tap water?
A.: Yes, the tap water is potable.

Q.: Is it possible to go topless on
the beach?
A.: No. In Surinam that is not allowed.
Q.: Do I get a refund in case the Boogie doesn’t take place?
A.: In the event the Boogie doesn’t take place, all payments will be refunded.
